Kaspersky Antivirus 2014 – Review & Free Download
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 delivers superb protection and security. As one of the best antivirus software applications, it is robust and integrates innovative technologies to defend against even the newest threats.
Kaspersky AntiVirus 2014 is one of the best antivirus software solutions available. This antivirus program protects your computer against bots, worms, Trojans, rootkits, spyware and viruses. It also detects new threats and prevents them from infiltrating your system.
Installation of Kaspersky Antivirus doesn’t require a restart. An included bootable recovery disk can rescue your computer by detecting and removing malware without booting the compromised OS. If you aren’t able to download the software because of a malware infection, you have the option to download a specialized tool to preemptively scan your PC and remove the threat to accommodate a clean install.
The Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 interface is effectively organized. You can set your preferences and let the software protect your computer without constantly monitoring it. Scans and updates happen automatically by default. The software includes real-time security as you surf the web, communicate via email or IM, and download, access and open files. In the event of an infection or potential threat, the software immediately lets you know and provides quick access to identify and fix the problem.
By default, Kaspersky automatically handles any found malware using its own recommended actions. In a few instances, it found gray-area products, legal software that could be used in a malicious fashion. Only in those cases did it pop up asking you what to do.
Kaspersky keeps up with current hacking technology by preventing exploits that might come via legitimate applications such as Java and Adobe Reader. It also prevents hackers from locking your system in conjunction with a ransomware attack.
ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs both certify Kaspersky’s technology for malware detection and removal; West Coast Labs adds Platinum Check Mark certification. Kaspersky also received VB100 certification from Virus Bulletin in nine of the ten latest tests.
I track three of the many tests performed by Austrian lab AV-Comparatives, the on-demand file-detection test, the zero-day proactive detection test, and the real-world dynamic test. In all three tests, Kaspersky earned the top rating, ADVANCED+.
AV-Test, based in Germany, rates products on protection against malware, light impact on performance, and overall usability (including few or no false positives). With six points available in each category, a product can earn at most 18 points. Kaspersky averaged 15.8 points in the last two tests, which is impressive. Only Bitdefender did better, with 17.5 points.
The software is easy to use and customizable. You can control just about every component of the software to schedule scans, adjust security levels, toggle specific features and change the appearance of the software interface. The Kaspersky URL Advisor protects your system while you’re online. The browser plug-in is available for IE and Firefox, and it stops you from navigating to infected websites. You’ll also be protected from phishing scams.
Kaspersky Antivirus 2014 has a virtual keyboard and gamer mode. The virtual terminal lets you input sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords and other personal information by clicking on the digital keyboard with your mouse. While it’s no way to type an essay, the virtual keyboard does circumvent attempts by keyloggers and keystroke-recognition malware to steal your information. The game mode makes it possible to enjoy full-screen video without interruptions.
A feature we’d like to highlight is the desktop security gadget. The sleek gadget docks on your desktop and provides better access and awareness of your system security at all times. The antivirus widget will change color if your security is at risk, and it includes quick links to the most important aspects of the software.
You can even drag and drop files directly to the gadget for an immediate manual scan. The buttons and even the appearance of the gadget are customizable. And if you don’t like it, you can always disable it.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 updates on a regular basis for continual security. Updates run in the background. The software can also help you identify and locate essential updates for your system and other applications. The vulnerability scan checks for outdated drivers and keeps you on top of crucial security updates. The tool also identifies settings that you might want to adjust for optimal security.
Help & Support
Access to tech support in Kaspersky Antivirus 2014 is built right into the program. Quick links take you to FAQs, tips, and forums. You can also send a system report to tech support if you run into problems, and there’s an option to enable a trace log if they so advise. Tech support can even fix problems remotely by sending you a fix-up script. It’s not quite as advanced as Norton’s in-product live chat and remote control support, but it gets the job done.
You’ll also find a useful collection of security-related utilities on the Tools page. Here you can create a Rescue Disk, either a CD or a bootable USB drive. You can identify and fix vulnerabilities in Windows and popular applications, wipe out traces of your computer and browsing activities, and fix errors configuration errors in Windows and in Internet Explorer, either accidental or malware-caused.
